Welcome to Mendocino County's Recycling Guide

Electronics and other items banned from trash

Many consumer electronics are now prohibited from the trash. They can be recycled without charge at any transfer station. Included are: televisions, computer monitors, computers, VCRs, printers, cell phones, telephones, microwaves, and answering machines. The state has also advised that all household batteries, mercury devices, and fluorescent tubes are prohibited from disposal as trash.  They may be recycled through the HazMobile program.  View the HazMobile schedule. For additional information about the state ban on electronics and other hazardous items, go to this CA state website page: Department of Toxic Substances Control

Choose less toxic products

Many commonly purchased pesticides can be harmful to both people and the environment.  They end up in run-off into the rivers and lakes and poison vital organisms at the base of the aquatic food chain.

Don't contribute to the problem!  There are many alternatives to solve pest problems without pesticides, or with less harmful pesticides.  Click below for detailed information on different pest problems, prepared by the Our Water Our World program:

Save energy by replacing your standard incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs, which last about 13 times longer and use about one-quarter of the energy. Substituting a compact fluorescent light for a traditional bulb will keep a half-ton of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere over the life of the bulb.
